Echo Glade offers short-term stays in a family home, with care provided by Heidi Mitchell, a registered nurse since 2006.
A stay planned around your child
Every stay begins with an individual review of your child’s medical needs, daily routines, equipment, and comfort. Together, we determine whether Echo Glade can provide the care and support your child needs before confirming a stay.
Care shaped around your child’s medical needs
Echo Glade focuses on infants and young children with medical needs, including children who are nonambulatory. Care needs we can discuss include:
- G-tube, GJ-tube, J-tube, and NG or NJ tube feeding
- Tracheostomy and ventilator care
- Oxygen, suctioning, and airway clearance
- Nebulizer treatments
- CPAP or BiPAP
- Central lines, ports, IV infusions, and TPN
- Colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy care
- Cecostomy, ACE, and bowel management
- Urinary catheters and intermittent catheterization
- Seizure care
- Diabetes and blood sugar monitoring
- Wounds and drains
- Specialized feeding, positioning, and monitoring equipment
Every child’s needs are reviewed individually before a stay is confirmed. Echo Glade can accommodate mild behavioral needs but is not an appropriate setting for children who need supervision to prevent wandering or elopement.
A weekend, a week, or a little longer
Whether your family needs a weekend, a weeklong stay, or several weeks, we can discuss arrangements around your child’s needs and available dates. Each stay is confirmed after reviewing care needs, required paperwork, and payment arrangements.
Welcoming families from across Northern California
Echo Glade is located in Brownsville, in the foothills of Yuba County. Families from nearby communities and throughout Northern California are welcome to inquire about a stay. Care takes place in Heidi’s home in Brownsville.

Respite can be more than time away from home. It can be a special experience your child gets to have. At Echo Glade, thoughtful nursing care and familiar routines make room for stories, music, arts and crafts, and gentle sensory activities. Whether your child enjoys watching or listening, the experience comes to them, including right to their bedside.

View our availability calendar, then contact Heidi with your preferred dates. If those dates are booked or pending, you are welcome to ask about our cancellation waitlist. Every stay is reviewed and confirmed personally.
Getting started
Start with a conversation. Tell us a little about your child and the dates you are considering.
Review the care needs together. We discuss the care plan, routines, supplies, and arrangements needed for the stay.
Confirm the details. A stay is scheduled once the care arrangements, required paperwork, availability, and payment arrangements are confirmed.
Families using Self-Determination
If your family uses California’s Self-Determination Program, please let us know which Financial Management Services company you use. We can discuss the steps needed to arrange services through your FMS.
